Sory Smith (b. 1909, Clarksville, Tenn.-d. Dec. 27, 1996), U.S. Air Force officer, graduated from West Point in 1930 with a commission in the Infantry. After completing pilot training, he transferred to the Air Corps in 1931. In 1941 he was a member of the U.S. Military North African Mission in Cairo, Egypt, and a year later joined the 9th Air Force, serving in Africa, the Middle East, England, and throughout Europe during World War II.
